Today I read about another one of those odd, intolerance-toward-Christians, kinds of things.
Nadia Eweida was dismissed from employment with British Airways without pay in October 2006 when she refused to cover up her cross necklace behind her neck scarf. Ms Eweida worked for British Airways as a check in worker. She argued before the Employment Tribunal in 2008 that she should be allowed to wear her necklace because Muslim and Hindu employees were permitted to wear headscarves and turbans. The Tribunal ruled in favor of British Airways.
Ms Eweida made an appeal regarding this decision and on February 15, Lord Justice Sedley upheld the Employment Appeal Tribunal’s November 2008 ruling determining that the airline’s ban did not constitute religious discrimination.
Corinna Ferguson, Liberty’s legal officer who represents Ms Ewedia, said: “This is a disappointing judgment that will do little to build public confidence in equality laws protecting everyone.”
All the pictures I've seen of this woman's cross show a small, close to the neck piece of jewelry. I'm stunned that it would cause so much commotion. But this isn't the first time during the last decade when I've read about odd things happening where it seemed that religious tolerance was afforded to everyone except Christians.
What about you, have you read about or experienced situations recently where it seems like everyone except Christians are afforded tolerance?

He was rejected first! So, this is not surprising! Sad...
Wow. If their government gets away with it, it won't be long before that level of discrimination is "justified" in our own country.
This kind of prejudice has been going on in this country since 1961 when prayer was banned in public schools. The sad part is Christians let it happen with out even standing up and saying No way.
Praise allah ya'all. That is ok to say that though
Beyond sad.
I'll play devil's advocate here--wearing a little piece of metal on a chain is not the mark of a Christian. What's the fuss?
This is crazy. I wonder what's wrong with the Company!
I just hope she gets justice...
Have a great weekend!:)
Wow, John Cowart's comment really made an impact. That is so true, wearing a cross doesn't make us Christians!
You're right John & Debby, only faith in Christ makes us Christian - not wearing any specific things.
My concern however is this trend I see in Europe and America where all religions except Christianity are shown forbearance and allowed to be open about their faith. Although I believe Jesus is the only way to God; I have always shown respect toward other people's religions because I think that is a humane way to live. I am glad the both America and Europe allow freedom of religion and religious expression; I just want to see that equal for all.
Thinking about this could get negative and I certainly don't want to be that. But at the same time I find this attitude strange and illogical. Makes me question the real source....
This is the horrible thing that i have ever read. :(
How could that airline get away with this???
Why does she feel the need to have to display that? To some people, that is an offensive symbol that is polluting the sanctity of the public sphere. I am glad that the Airlines did that. About time that the public starts fighting back.
