I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on White House communications director Anita Dunn's comment that Fox is “opinion journalism masquerading as news.” What do you think about her statement?
I appreciated Charles Krauthammer's take on it over at National Review online in his post entitled "Fox Wars".
I know that I've never felt like news from the left shouldn't exist. It's like O'Riley pointed out this past Wednesday; one of the things that makes America great is the freedom to express differing ideas. Just to underscore how open minded I am (ha!) I've even got The New Republic book marked and read it a few times a week; I figure it's good for me to have a dose of thoughts with which I do not agree.
What do you think?

Hi there... love your last line, "I figure it's good for me to have a dose of thoughts with which I do not agree." Seeing both sides of any issue helps me to more clearly take my stand that I believe in and will defend.
I don't watch Fox so don't really have a qualified opinion but if there wasn't an audience for what they're saying on Fox News then there wouldn't be a Fox News. There's room in this country for all kinds of views and opinions so I agree with the statement in that "it's good for me to have a dose of thoughts with which I do not agree."
I wish the rest of media is fair in reporting like Fox's...The problem is that they don't want to be criticized by Fox when they are doing something negative...starting from the President to some of his people/supporters...
The beauty of this country is that we CAN have opposing points of view. Thank God there are varying news outlets: CNN, HLN, MSNBC, FOX to provide a balanced review. People ultimately chose for themselves who they listen to and what they believe. A White House that forces its people to listen to and watch a select media that favors its position is truly a violation of everything American and everything that freedom represents. I am disgusted, literally, by the events of the past few days. I am more and more inclined to believe that this new administration of change has socialist tendencies. The evidence is becoming more and more clear to me. WAKE UP folks...this has happened before...a quick review of history is all one needs to understand what is happening. Dictators have always taken this position to squash the voices of dissent. These dissenters are often jailed, killed or silenced by take over. Look at how many folks are AFRAID to speak their political views in public. They whisper or remain silent. Sad very sad... Knowledge and courage must exist in every citizen of this country if we are to preserve this great nation.
OK, first of all, no one in the administration is looking to quash Fox News by any means.
Second, it's not about having a different point of view, it's about correctly or incorrectly reporting facts.
The fact of the matter is that people who watched Fox News were more likely (I don't remember how much, but it was substantial) to think that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, that Iraq was tied to 9/11, etc. These positions were advocated because they supported the Republican president at the time (Bush). Now, they attack Obama because he's a Democrat. They pick their position and then try to spin the facts to fit their agenda. This is not "News" it's propaganda, which is what Ms. Dunn should have called it.
I'd be willing to say that news from the left shouldn't exist, nor should news from the right...well, only one of those actually does exist and that's news from the right. It's not the fault of reality that it has a decided slant towards liberalism.
Well, this thread is dead, but where was all the outrage during the Bush years when reporters were routinely left out if the administration felt that their reporting was too critical? This forced reporters to toe the line in order to maintain their livelihood and their beat, and to treat the Bush admin with kid gloves, lest they be ostrasized. I'm sure that everyone jumping down Obama's throat right now also protested Bush's (worse) treatment of the press?
